Northwest EMS Academy Graduates Their First Class Of EMT Students

In January, 2021, Northwest EMS began offering EMT classes as part of our newly credentialed EMS Academy. The first students enrolled did so as part of a pilot program with Elizabethtown High School. Under the direction of Northwest EMS Paramedic, Ryan Runkel, students received classroom education, practical skills training, and ambulance ride-along opportunities. When a child is admitted to the hospital, it can be a very unsettling experience. One of the ways that hospitals alleviate the anxiety of procedures and unfamiliar surroundings is by providing toys, activities, puzzles and other items that can pre-occupy the child and distract them from their situation. These seemingly small (and inexpensive) items make a huge impact on the well-being of the child. The gesture also gives parents the confidence that their child is coping well.
