National EMS Memorial Service (NEMSMS) Slated To Honor Paramedic Douglas Zima

Northwest EMS has been advised that the National EMS Memorial Service (NEMSMS) will be honoring Paramedic Douglas Zima at this year’s memorial observances in Washington, DC on July 24th.

This year’s Memorial Service will pay tribute to over 100 EMS providers who died in the line of duty, in what will be the largest EMS Memorial the foundation has performed to date. The Memorial Service will include numerous historical honorees, as well as a number of EMS provider tragically lost as a direct result of the pandemic. NEMSMA president, Jana Williams, has stated, “There has never been a more defining time to honor the service and sacrifice of those in EMS as there remains right now. Despite persistent challenges, we remain committed that the fallen will not be forgotten. We appreciate the continued support to ensure they receive the full national recognition they deserve”.

A full list of honorees and information on the weekend’s events, including the National EMS Moment of Silence, will be posted on the NEMSMS website in the near future. www.nationalemsmemorial.org.

May 30, 2021, will mark one year since the untimely passing of our Paramedic, Doug Zima who, while performing patient care on what would have been his last call of the day for that shift, suffered a medical emergency. Despite the valiant efforts of his EMT partner and responders from mutual aid services, the efforts did not produce the outcome we would have hoped.

Because of the dedication of the National EMS Memorial Service, EMS responders who die in the line of duty will not be forgotten.
