Donegal High Public Safety Day

Northwest EMS recently joined Donegal High School for their second Annual Public Safety Day. It featured local emergency response agencies, including  fire departments, EMS, law enforcement and emergency management. Also participating were students from Lancaster County Career and Technology’s Protective Services program.  The theme for this year’s event was “Distracted Driving.”

While local fire departments demonstrated vehicle-rescue techniques, Northwest EMS showcased basic and advanced life support skills such as cardiac monitoring, spinal immobilization techniques and CPR.

The dangers of distracted driving were emphasized and students were provided with information on safe driving practices.  In addition, students learned about opportunities to learn basic first aid, regular CPR and “Hands Only” CPR. Students were encouraged to try their hand at practicing some of the skills demonstrated and many students enjoyed the opportunity to practice CPR techniques on a manikin.
