EMS Week 2023 Celebrates The Pre-Hospital Profession

This year marks the 48th year that a week-long celebration of the EMS profession will take place in May. This year’s theme is “EMS. Where Emergency Care Begins.”

The first EMS Week was recognized in 1974 when President Gerald Ford authorized the week-long celebration to recognize EMS practitioners and the important work we do in our communities. This year, EMS Week will occur May 21 – 27, 2023, with the following themes for each day of the week:

The day after a tragedy is not the day to learn the simple live-saving skills that may have saved the life of your loved one.

In an out of hospital cardiac arrest or traumatic hemorrhage injury, it’s the family member or bystander who renders effective care that is the critical link to survival for the victim. What you do in those few minutes before the arrival of the ambulance makes all the difference.
